01 · The cover story

Choose a reason for the outing that fits your relationship. The plan should explain the timing, clothing and travel without requiring your partner to ignore obvious clues.
Share sensitivities early: whether they dislike public attention, prefer simplicity, or would want family involved afterward. Privacy is personal, not just a guest count.
02 · The moment
Decide what must happen; leave the words alone.
A clear sequence can identify where you will stand, how the ring stays secure, and what cue tells the photographer the moment is close. It should not prescribe a speech or turn the answer into a performance.
03 · The camera
Plan sight lines before poses.
A photographer needs an unobstructed angle, safe footing and a way to remain unobtrusive. Discuss whether you want the proposal only, a short portrait session afterward, or no photography at all.
Ask how images will be delivered and used. Client privacy, releases and posting preferences should be explicit before the date.
